About Shalini

Pattern: Raining Umbrella’s

Pattern: That’s 60s Vibe

Born in Guyana, South America, I emigrated to the UK aged 4 and then moved to the USA in my mid-thirties. My creative route took a backseat as I worked in the corporate world for over ten years.

After several years of card-making, blogging, writing and being a full-time mom, I came across a course that introduced me to surface pattern design. Inspired, I delved into this new world and finally found an alternative creative outlet to writing.

My work reflects my passion for creating patterns that will bring joy. The designs can be vibrant or muted – which ever showcases the often hand-drawn motif.

With sophistication and elegance always in mind, I strive to create a design that when placed on a tote bag or a dress will make a statement.

Was it a good idea to do this in my mid-40s? Perhaps not - it felt like starting all over again. But this opportunity in design offered me a chance to truly make my mark on the world and understood that even though I am a mom, wife, sister, cousin, godmother, and friend - there are no limits to what can be achieved.

“Believe in yourself and just go for it.”
